ISO 2493 Taber Paper Stiffness Tester (RT-430B)

Pointer Taber Stiffness Testing Instrument for Paper & Paperboard

RT-430B Taber Paper Stiffness Tester is a precision instrument that measures how much force (bending moment) is needed to deflect a clamped paper or cardboard sample to a specific angle (usually 15°), quantifying its rigidity using Taber Stiffness Units, essential for quality control in packaging and printing industries and compliant with standards like TAPPI T489 and ISO 2493.

Products Description

Product Overview:

The ISO 2493 Paper and Paperboard Taber Stiffness Tester is a professional precision testing instrument designed to measure the bending stiffness and rigidity of paper and paperboard materials in accordance with ISO 2493 standard. It is widely used in material testing labs, packaging companies, printing houses, universities, and research institutes for quality control and R&D purposes.

Key Features & Standards:
Versatility: Tests paper, cardboard, foil, plastic films, textiles, and more.
Standards: Complies with ASTM D5342, ISO 2493, TAPPI T489 (general paper/board), and TAPPI T566 (lightweight/flexible materials).

Working Principle:

The instrument is designed based on the principle of static torque equilibrium at the center of the rotating shaft. The stiffness value of the specimen is obtained by measuring the force or torque required to bend the specimen, which is clamped at one end, to a specified angle. The bending force acts on a constant bending length.

Technical Specifications:
• The instrument is a specialized testing apparatus designed based on the two-point loading method and the principle of torque equilibrium. It consists of a transmission section, a measurement section, and a support mounting base.
• The transmission section transfers power from the motor through an intermediate drive chain to the angle disc. Rotation of the angle disc drives the paper-pushing frame.
• The measurement section comprises a force dial, angle dial, rhombic pendulum body, paper clamp, and paper-pushing frame. Motor rotation drives the angle dial, which in turn rotates the paper-pushing frame. The small push rod on the frame contacts the specimen, applying force to bend it. The specimen is clamped in the paper clamp jaws, which are mounted on the rhombic pendulum. Under the specimen’s inherent rigidity, the specimen experiences force while the rhombic pendulum undergoes torque. This torque causes the pendulum to rotate. When the relative angular displacement between the pendulum and the angle disc reaches 15° (or 7.5°), the rotation stops, achieving torque equilibrium within the system. The zero line on the angle dial indicates the torque value of the tested specimen, expressed in mN·m.
